Era il 2 maggio 1986 quando, durante il Tour de Corse, Henri Toivonen e Sergio Cresto, a bordo della Lancia Delta S4, malauguratamente escono di strada sulla discesa del Col d'Ominanda, lungo una curva a sinistra apparentemente facile, ma che comunque confinava con un burrone molto ripido.
